Mexico to El Salvador. Should i do it alone?

I was born in El Salvador but now live in Australia. I am returning back to my homeland for the first time in 5 years and the first time by myself. I am planning on staying for 3 months. I’m a 21 year old male, and speak fluent spanish.
I was thinking about possibly going to Mexico City and working my way down through Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, before eventually reaching El Salvador (estimated the trip to take me 1 month max)
Although i have put alot of thought into doing this trip, i am still not sure about traveling by myself. I will not be driving, but rather taking normal buses and taxis. I wish to see the Aztec and Mayan ruins.
I have spoke to some family members in El Salvador, and they have told me that it would be best for me to go staright to El Salvador and then make my way up and around the surrounding countries. Or to take direct city buses from Mexico City to Belmopan to Guatemala City and then to San Salvador. What should i do? Is it safe to do it alone?

Budget traveling, Belize?

I’m heading to Belize with my girlfriend soon. We’ll be there for nine days and plan on staying on Caye Corker. We’re planning on snorkeling, checking out Mayan Ruins on the mainland and venturing to other islands for day trips. We’re concerned with budgeting issues as we’ve planned on taking nearly 1000 dollars each and splitting all costs evenly. We’ve heard that cash is about the only payment accepted most places and that credit cards aren’t! My question is that will 2000 between the two of us be enough to cover our expenses? We’re planning on living modestly, hopefully under 30 a night and not splurging on unnecessary amenities. Are there hidden costs not mentioned in in the travel books? Has anyone done this similar thing? any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I’m planning to go to Belize for a week next March with my wife and my 2 yr. old, is it safe? activities?

I’d like to know if there is anything interesting to do in Belize besides scuba diving. I’m going to explore some of the archeological sites myself but it’s too much of an ordeal for a 2 yr. old. We really like a quiet beach away for all the tourist craziness if possible. I’m picking Belize because of the Maya sites but maybe it’s not the best family pick. We went to Cancun and hated the whole all-inclusive tourist thing and we thought Belize would be different. What do you think, are Costa Rica or Honduras (any others?) better, safer family choices?
