Passports….?

I’m planning a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Navigator to Cozumel and Belize City for Jan. 2008. I called RCCL last week and they told me that a passport would not be required until June 2008 but I called Orbitz today to see what they would say, and the lady told me I WOULD need one for January. I’ve been on the U.S. Dept. of State website and this is what it says:

JANUARY 31, 2008
U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.

I’m so confused!! I’m planning on applying for my passport in the next week or so because of the confusion, but in case it doesn’t get here on time, I want to know that I will still be able to go on the cruise! When I apply should I go ahead and have it expedited?

Thanks for any info anyone can give!
Robin

I had my US passport amended after I got married…?

The first page still has all my original info and maiden name. The last page states “passport has been amended to read bearers name as (my married name.) My question…has anyone with an “amended” passport had any confusion or trouble entering a foreign country? I’d sure like to go back to Belize for vacation!

Can I sue the Government for all the money I’ve lost by not having my passsport by when they promised it?

I am out over $3,000 in airfare, lodging, meals, tuition etc for a college class my daughters taking in Belize. She applied for her passport over 3 months ago, even drove to Houston 6 days prior to the scheduled flight (it was yesterday the 7th, she’s still here) and they promised again she’d have it in time. Our state senators (TX) were also useless in trying to resolve this matter.

Old versus new US passports?

My fiance and I applied for our passports last month. Mine was technically an application as my previous passport was issued under age 15 and his was also an application however it was his first time applying. We both paid the $97, yet we received different passports! Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you have difficulty traveling?? I am worried because ours are issued only 4 days apart but I just realized they look completely different! I have the old style that I previously had 10 years ago and he has the new electronic version. We leave for Belize in a week and I want to make sure I have an explanation if anyone asks why they are totally different! I would really appreciate any insight because I am really confused.
