Blue Ventures Belize

Blue Ventures new volunteer project works to help monitor and conserve coastal areas and the Barrier Reef around Corozal Bay and Bacalar Chico National Park in the North of Belize. With the beautiful coral formations offshore, lush seagrass beds in the extensive lagoons and thick mangrove stands along the shores this area abounds with biodiversity. Volunteers can participate in mangrove studies, manatee monitoring and rehabilitation, seagrass surveys and dive to monitor the corals and fish on the Belize Barrier Reef, a Natural World Heritage Site. Their efforts will assist the government and communities of Belize to preserve their rich natural heritage. www.blueventures.org

Positive impacts on coral reefs?

What Positive impacts have humans had on coral reefs and the Belize coral reef

For great snorkeling–where is the Caribbean coral least affected?

We are avid snorkelers and our vacation plans are based ONLY on the HOW GOOD the SNORKELING IS! We are aware of the much publicized devastation of coral reefs over the last couple of years. Where is the snorkeling less affected? We are thinking about TURKS & CAICOS, CURACAO, OR ANTIGUA. Someone told me that in Turks & Caicos, the coral has not been affected. We would prefer a place where there is enough good snorkeling you can do on your own without having to go on a boat and be subject to the boat’s schedule.
We’ve already done some great snorkeling at BVI (including St. John), Bonaire, Cozumel, and Belize, but we were disappointed in Grand Cayman.
