No, although its the official language of Belize only about 30% of Belizeans speak it. The most spoken language in Belize is Spanish and Belizean Creole.
Yes – big time! My wife and I have been in Belize now for about 2.5 years. We are both from the States and primarily English speakers. We have been to many parts of the country and have only had a hard time communicating with people a couple of times. The primary difficulty has been in San Ignacio where there are many Spanish-only speakers. Even there many times there is someone who can speak both languages and help translate. In short, the official language of the country is English and most people in the country, especially the younger folks, speak the language well.
