Hello. I am planning a vacation for me and my mother. We would like to go to Belize, but I would like to know from someone who’s been there what it’s like. We will be going to Belize City first, and then Ambergris Caye. I am more into the adventure stuff (snorkeling, swim with sharks, zipline, etc.) my mom is old and likes to do the exact opposite of me. Any information anyone could give would be much appreciated!! thank you
There is a time where you can actually swim with the sharks. My friend goes every year and he loves it. Ill try to get you more information.

I just spent 2 weeks all over belize, and loved it. I felt that the country was very hospitable – the people are friendly, helpful, and laid back, and it has a certain cultural flair. (the fact that everyone speaks english is also a big plus!) It is inexpensive to travel throughout most of the country, and we stayed at some nice places for great prices. I would recommend staying in a suburb outside of belize city – not that I felt unsafe in Belize city, but I was more comfortable outside of the city. We stayed at a great bed and breakfast called Villa Boscardi, it was charming, safe, and not too expensive – and also conveniently right by a supermarket and somewhat near the airport. If I went back, I would stay there again for sure. There are tons of tours that will leave from Belize City and go all over the place, so that is a good hub for branching out to different activities. I would recommend cave tubing (not too strenuous, but was one of the highlights of my trip!). We did a tour with http://www.cave-tubing.com which was excellent. Some other things we did within the vicinity of Belize City were the Belize Zoo (very cool, lots of exotic animals), Lamanai (mayan ruins), the Baboon Sanctuary (loved this – I actually had wild monkeys eating bananas out of my hands, and learned a lot about the native plants), and went canoeing in the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. Other parts of my trip that were farther away included San Ignacio (west of BC, where we saw the Xunatunich ruins and went hiking in caves and waterfalls in Mountain Pine Ridge), Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary (South of BC, a jaguar preserve where we stayed with a mayan family, did a night hike, a day hike and tubing, and a kayaking trip down the rapids through the jungle). We also went to Tikal in Guatemala – if you are into Mayan ruins, that is a great trip. We also went to Ambergris Caye – the snorkeling was great, I only went for a half day, but got to swim with the sharks and stingrays. If I had more time, I would have liked to do an all-day snorkeling and island hopping tour, I would suggest that. The town itself is kind of touristy and more expensive than the rest of Belize, but the water activities are great. Hope that helps you! If you want more info, feel free to contact me through here and I could forward a copy of my itinerary with all the links.
