One thing that DOES NOT HELP the whole immigration issue, is the tendency to refer to all Latin American immigrants as “Mexicans”. I’m a gringo living in southern Mexico (and loving it, by the way) and I see the columns of people from all of central America trooping through to reach the promise land. People from Honduras, El Salvador, Columbia, Belize..the list goes on. But when they emerge into the U.S., they are suddenly all “Mexicans”. Amazing! And this is just the Latin American situation. And, while we’re so busy building fences to keep “them” out, a lot of folks from other countries are slipping in the side door. Discussing immigration is fine, but we have gotten to a point to where someone uses the word “immigrant”, most people think “Mexican”. Not correct, and not fair. People from Mexico are PART of the delima, not THE delima. Ok, now let’s all take a deep breath, and have a wonderful day!

Not all illegal immigrants are Mexicans. That’s why some people have been called racist because instead of sounding anti-illegal immigration they sound anti-mexican.

As long as we are splitting hairs here, why do you insist on refering to them as “Latin Americans”. They do not speak Latin, nor are they from Latium, the region immediately surrounding Rome.
They all come by way of Mexico, whether they are Mexican or not.
We need to secure the border, so that people who are geographically in Mexico can not sneak into what is geographically the United States. We don’t need to control the border of Mexico with their southern neighbors. We need only control our border with Mexico, which by default will keep them all out. ?Entiende?

Wow hey thanks for the info, now when the Mexican government catches an illegal migrant from any of these other countries, what do they do with them. AND can they get free food in the Mexican schools there? How about welfare . . . how many illegal Columbian migrants IN MEXICO get welfare from the Mexican government? We all know more than Mexicans come across our southern border. We want to close it but it’s Mexicans who claim it’s just to keep them out and they could care a rats behind who else crosses our borders just as long as the drugs, smugglers and family members run free for the MONEY. It’s the Mexican government raising havoc about “their” people. Now since you’re a “gringo” I doubt very seriously I could line up other “gringos” and have you tell me which one is American, English, Polish, Canadian, German, Australian, Austrian, Irish, Scottish etc. etc. So no…….I couldn’t for positive tell you if someone was from someplace in South America or Mexico or Cuba or in many cases the Middle East, or even Spain. I do get the idea when they fly the Mexican Flag. Celebrate Mexico’s independance. Yell Viva Mexico. Carry a sign that say’s “this is our land Europeans go home”. I’m not hearing Chavez or any of the other latin countries telling our government what to do concerning “their” people being here illegally or bringing in mobile consulates to aid in papers and give out information to get around our laws. Yes Mexico is a part of the problem. But by sheer numbers…..a very BIG part.

90% of illegal aliens are from Latin America. 80% of that number are from Mexico. That would mean 70% are from Mexico or “Mexican”. If you use the term “Mexican” to refer to illegal aliens you would be correct 70% of the time. 90% of the time I see posted the term “illegal alien” without reference to country of origin. On this forum I do see posted the term Viva Mexico. I have never seen the term Viva Honduras, El Salvador. Or any of the other countries you have mentioned. During the Marches I didn’t see any flag other than the Mexican flag being waved so if some people equate the term illegal with Mexican it is because that is what they see and hear.

You make a very good point regarding the fact that not all immigrants are Mexican. There are illegals from many nations in this country. There are also many hard-working people that could use a break, the trouble comes in differentiating between the “good” illegals and the “bad illegals. As a point, there was some local news in my area that was quite disturbing. Two brothers from Guatemala were found murdered and dumped down a manhole in a new subdivision under construction. The perpetrators are believed to be a gang of Mexicans that are into drug-running, money laundering and other undesirable activities. I guess you never know who you can trust, just because you speak the same language. The illegal immigrant issue needs to be addressed quickly, and it appears neither the Democrats or Republicans have the intestinal fortitude to do anything.
